['kriːlɪ], Robert White, amerikanischer Lyriker, * Arlington (Massachusetts) 21. 5. 1926; schloss sich zeitweise den Lyrikern am Black Mountain College (North Carolina) an, wo er auch Herausgeber der »Black Mountain Review« war (1954-57); später machte er Bekanntschaft mit den Autoren der Beatgeneration. Creeleys intensiv persönliche Lyrik geht von Erfahrungen und Redeweisen des Alltags aus und ist gekennzeichnet durch sprachliche Präzision, rhythmische Vielfalt und den Anschein der Improvisation. Creeley hat auch Erzählungen (»The gold diggers«, 1954, erweitert 1965; deutsch »Mister Blue«, auch unter dem Titel »Die Goldgräber«), einen Roman (»The island«, 1963; deutsch »Die Insel«) und Essays geschrieben.
